The Different Types of Type W Power Cables

In reality, there are actually various types of Type W power cables. The type W cable is used as a single conductor cable and even a multi-conduction cable. The single conductor cable is excellent for various applicable such as portable power applications and for temporary power. The multi-conductor type is applicable for industrial jobs and medium to light duty mining. The heavy duty service type is used as a power supply cable and for AC systems. Some of the Type W cables are also used for motor leads. If you are planning to use this type of cable, you need to know the differences between each type and you need to know how to apply them. If you do not apply them perfectly, you might have several problems in the future such as short circuiting or lack of voltage.

The first type is the single conductor based Type W power cables. The single conductor type has 8 AWG rating which is through 500 MCM fully annealed with a bunch of stranded bare type copper. The single conductor can withstand a very cold temperature of about -40°C. This means that the wiring can be applied in cold climate such as during the winter. The maximum temperature for this type of wiring is about 90 degrees Celsius. In fact, the wiring is covered with premium grade 90 degree Celsius EPDM. The jacket is covered with a voltage rating of about 600 volts type RHH/RHW cable with over 2000 volt Type W. For the cable reinforcement, the wires are placed in open polyester braid reinforcement which is also applied in the jacket so that the wires would have an excellent mechanical strength. The single conductor type W is used particularly for portable power, for entertainment uses such as theater, night clubs, motor pictures and spotlight and lighting systems. It can also be used in permanent wiring of 600 volt supplies such as hoists and cranes.

The Multi Conductor Type W power cables are used mainly for industrial purposes. Like the single conductor, the multi conductor has based annealed copper which is per ASTM B-3 based flexibility. With each wiring, there is a separator tape applied so that the conductor and the insulator would be easily stripped. Each of the wires are colored coded according to resistance. The conductors are actually assembled in round and fixed fillers which are used as an open reinforcement applied for mechanical purposes. Like the single conductor, the jacket has extra hard usage and strength with oil resistant thermostat and sunlight resistance. The multi-conductor is actually used for conveyor belts, drills as well as pumps and can also be used as portable or temporary power supply cables. Aside from that, it can also be used for battery and motor leads. The wires can withstand any type of environment including sudden exposure to oil, heat, moisture, acids and various types of chemicals. The rope lay stranding is excellent for protecting the wire from impact and abrasion and the cable core is designed for maximum superior flexibility and overall toughness.
